Lakshman Suryabhan Chavan, born in 1981 in Pimpalgaon (Ghat), Beed district, Maharashtra, rose from a laboring family as their first graduate, earning a fine arts degree.

Hailing from the Marathawada region, he completed an Art Teacher diploma from Kailas Kalaniketan, Beed (2004), and an S.D. Art diploma from Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya, Pune (2011). He briefly studied sculpture at Sir JJ School of Art, Mumbai (2012), but financial challenges led him back to painting. Chavan debuted at Mumbai’s Pradarshak gallery (2009), followed by shows at Rudraksh (Pune, 2010), Nehru and Art Plaza (Mumbai, 2011), Trident (Mumbai, 2013/2016), and Jehangir (Mumbai, 2017).

His achievements include the Pune festival painting award (2010), Maharashtra State Award and Bombay Art Society award (both 2020), and a Surbhi Nag Foundation scholarship (2011).

Chavan crafts abstract portraits that delve into human and divine identities through evocative faces. His visual compositions embody great asceticism, abstaining from indulgence, deeply concentrated as an honest witness, narrating our potential to realize full cultural and spiritual identity.
